BTSS facilitates the Minor Home Repair (MHR) program with funding from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The program is designed to help low to moderate income households complete more complicated home maintenance.

To qualify for the Minor Home Repair Program

To qualify residents must be 60 years of age or older and a resident of Bloomfield Township. The gross annual 2024 income per household is $53,700.00 (or below) with one person. The maximum household income for 2 residents is $61,400 (please call for additional income limits). The maximum home value is $420,000.00 and the maximum in financial assets is $50,000.00 per household member. Financial documents, proof of income and an application are required. No fees are payable by homeowners for repairs facilitated in this program.

Repairs must fit the MHR criteria and may not exceed $5,000.00 in a program calendar year. Repairs are subject to Federal lead-based paint regulations. The application form is available on the Township website (Application for MCL 211.7u Poverty Exemption) or by calling Senior Services at 248-723-3500.

Program staff are available to help residents through the application process and to manage projects through to completion.

Financial Assistance Program

As of June 2020 Bloomfield Township has streamlined the process and application form for those residents seeking hardship exemption for property taxes, waiver of solid waste, and Minor Home Repair Community Block Grants. Residents facing financial hardship can now use one form to apply for any or all of the above.
