2025 Construction Projects

Vernor Estates Water Main Replacement

As part of the Township’s continuing capital improvement program, existing 6 and 8-inch diameter cast iron water mains in the Vernor Estates Subdivision are being replaced by High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) lines equivalent to 8-inch or greater cast iron lines. The scope of work includes replacing the aging water mains, replacing and adding hydrants and valves, replacing the water service lines within the right-of-way, and installing new stop boxes.  The construction method selected for the project is pre-chlorinated pipe bursting. Pre-chlorinated pipe bursting is less disruptive than traditional open cut water main replacement. These water system enhancements will replace deteriorating lines installed nearly 60 years ago, provide the residents with a more reliable water system, improve water flow, and lessen the chances of water service loss due to emergency water system repairs. Importantly, the project will be completed prior to start of the road SAD project taking place in 2026.

Late July-November 2025: Phase 1
April-July 2026: Phase 2

Use this project area map to find out which construction phase your home is in.

Residents may also experience discolored water due to turbulence in the old pipes during the project and air in the plumbing during the switching over of residential water services. If this happens, run the cold water through a faucet until the water is clear. This may take three to five minutes. If you have concerns about lead in your water, view our information on lead services, how to identify if you have lead plumbing, how to reduce your potential exposure to lead, and testing information.

South Bloomfield Highlands Water Main Project

The water system that serves the South Bloomfield Highlands Subdivision is a private well system installed in the 1920’s which has reached the end of its useful life. As part of a Special Assessment District (SAD) majority approved by the South Bloomfield Highlands Residents, the existing water main distribution system in the South Bloomfield Highlands Subdivision is being replaced. The scope of work includes replacing the existing well system with approximately 14,600 feet of 8-inch diameter water main, replacing hydrants and gate valves, new 1” water service line to the property line, and new stop boxes at each address, and abandoning the existing water main and well system. The new system will be tied over to the existing municipal water supply, which will eliminate the need for replacement and long-term maintenance of the existing private well system. Substantial completion of the project is October 31, 2025. Final completion in which the existing water system and wells have been abandoned, and all project clean-up and punch-list items are completed by April 30, 2026.

Bloomfield Township Storm Water Detention Basin Rehabilitation

Results of the conditions assessment outlined in the SWAMP indicated that Township-owned detention basins required rehabilitation ranging from invasive species treatment to dredging. Plans and specifications were prepared by HRC for the rehabilitation of five (5) detention basins throughout the Township. The rehabilitation includes approximately 1,400 cubic yards of sediment dredging, within two (2) basins and 1.85 acres of invasive species treatment and removal within four (4) basins. Additionally, there will be roughly 15,000 square yards of wetland, detention basin, turf grass, and woodland edge seed mix restoration throughout all five (5) basins. Work will be performed through the spring with final removal of invasive species taking place in the fall.

Bloomfield Township Storm Pipe Capital Improvement Project

Results of the conditions assessment outlined in the SWAMP indicated that several storm sewer pipes, manholes, and catch basins required rehabilitation ranging from cleaning and televising up to complete pipe replacement. Plans and specifications were prepared by HRC for storm system improvements within 23 different areas throughout the Township. The rehabilitation includes almost 5,000 linear feet of sewer cleaning and televising, roughly 2,700 linear feet of full sewer lining and an additional 15 sectional liners, and one section of sewer pipe removal and replacement. Also included in the project is the cleaning of 131 structures, removal and replacement of 14 structure covers and frames, 38 chimney tuck points, 6 chimney reconstructs, and 1 curb inlet replacement.
