Kind Acts Highlight the End of 2025 in Bloomfield Township
I want to wish all residents a safe and Happy New Year in 2026! Upon taking office in November 2024, I went on a listening tour to each department to learn about each service they provide and how elected officials can assist in making them better, more efficient, or helping facilitate needed changes. As I met with each department I was struck by how kind, caring, and compassionate the employees who work for Bloomfield Township are. That was never more evident than this past holiday season where all employees participated in gift giving and donation drives.
The Bloomfield Township Fire Department Charities raised over $17,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in their annual Fill the Boot campaign! You may have seen our firefighter/paramedics on Thanksgiving Eve alongside family members raising money at local grocery stores and coffee shops. Police Department Charities joined the Fire Department in a gift card drive for veterans in need across Oakland County. You may have spotted them throughout December alongside the Grinch! They raised over $5,000. Once a month, Township employees wear jeans and donate to a local charity that serves the area in a drive called Casual for a Cause. This year they have raised over $2,000.
While the holiday season was off to a festive start, weather quickly got very cold and we saw heavy snowfall. Our first major snow hit Thanksgiving weekend and December saw steady below average cold temperatures. Our Public Works Road Crew fleet of over twelve trucks have been up to the challenge. On-call 24/7 throughout the winter season, crews report when they’re needed to salt and plow roads. DPW Director Noah Mehalski and his staff reported at 4:00 a.m. for the first major work of the season. He is continuously monitoring weather patterns to prepare and keep our roads as safe as possible until the spring hits. With over 200 miles of road to maintain, crews work lengthy shifts until the work is complete and I thank them for the incredible work.
On behalf of the Township, I want to wish our community a safe and wonderful year filled with peace and good will. I look forward to serving you in 2026.
