New and advanced drug detection technology is now available to the Bloomfield Township Fire and Police Departments via TruNarc. Bloomfield Township Fire Department (BTFD) Operations Officer Alan VanHeck trains law enforcement, border patrol, and military across the country with this recently developed drug detection tool. VanHeck states, “With the recent increase in fentanyl distribution, law enforcement agencies needed a new way to test substances that would not harm their personnel.”
In April, VanHeck led training with the Bloomfield Township Police Department (BTPD) to incorporate TruNarc in their law enforcement work. His work is documented in TruNarc: The Future of Drug Testing. The video includes an overview of how the device works and the importance of using it safely. BTPD Officer Marshall Scott states, “TruNarc is fairly self-explanatory, with guidelines of what you can and can’t use it on. The training shows the risk of not using TruNarc correctly.”
TruNarc is designed to test for multiple controlled substances and provides clear, definitive results for presumptive identification with no user interpretation required by utilizing laser technology. The device analyzes key drugs of abuse, as well as common cutting agents, precursors, and emerging threats such as fentanyl; numerous fentanyl compounds, including carfentanil; common street fentanyl analogs; and pharmaceutical variants (alfentanil and sufentanil), as well as two fentanyl precursors, NPP and ANPP.
