BCTV’s first annual Sports Broadcasting Camp (SBC) is currently in session with a full class of eager students learning. The program is offering students a unique, hands-on experience covering live events in the realm of local high school sports.
This year’s inaugural camp will conclude with students covering the annual August match between Brother Rice and Seaholm High School, aka the Keith Bernacki Memorial Cup Game.
This year’s game will be played on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Seaholm High School at 7:00 p.m. It will be recorded by BCTV (including this year’s SBC participants) and available via Comcast Channel 15 and AT&T Channel 99 in Bloomfield Township and Bloomfield Hills. In Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Franklin, and Bingham Farms, it's available via Comcast Channel 18, WOW Channel 18, and AT&T Channel 99.
Established in 2020, this memorial game was created to honor the life and legacy of Keith Bernacki, an all-state Brother Rice soccer player and graduate who became a teacher and coach at Seaholm High School. As a teenager, Bernacki developed a rare cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma and passed away in 2011 at the age of 33. This annual match between both schools is played to honor Bernacki's memory and his tremendous impact on student athletes.
Speaking about the game, Seaholm Athletic Director Aaron Frank states, “it really is one of the most meaningful days every year, even though it’s early in the season and it’s not the playoffs and we’re not in the same league, it’s special.” Bernacki’s mother, Karen adds, “it means a lot to me when some of Keith’s former teammates come back and pay tribute.”
Ryan Wooley, BCTV Sports host and producer, is one of the instructors at Sports Broadcasting Camp. Wooley produced and narrated a video that will be featured at the upcoming game. He shares, "I was honored when asked to produce the halftime piece about the Memorial Cup so that fans, players, coaches, and the community could better understand the significance of the game, and the impact Keith had on the community. The Bernacki family couldn't have been better to work with when conducting interviews and I'm very proud at how we were able to tell Keith's story for generations to come."
Wooley will also be hosting and producing BCTV’s upcoming “Sideline Stories,” which delves into local high school sports and the student-athletes that make them special. The show looks to go beyond the athletic field and bring to life the stories of those competing, as well as connect with coaches, athletic directors, community figures, and more.
BCTV’s Sports Broadcasting Camp will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Sideline Stories.”
