Due to Popular Demand, Clerk's Office Extends Walk-In Passport Hours Into May

Thinking about traveling outside the United States? The State Department recently announced that the regular processing time for a new passport is 10-13 weeks, not including mailing. Expedited processing time is 7-9 weeks, not including mailing. The sooner you apply, the sooner these timelines initiate.

During April, the clerk’s office assisted on 68 passport applications during its special evening walk-in hours - the majority of which were for families with young children. “We want to do our best to help residents with obtaining these important documents,” said Clerk Martin C. Brook. The clerk’s office will be open for this service from 4:00pm to 5:30pm on a first-come, first-served basis the following days:

Wednesday, May 3rd
Wednesday, May 10th
Wednesday, May 17th
Wednesday, May 24th
Wednesday, May 31st

Anyone in line at 5:30 p.m. will be processed. Also, the walk-in hours are in addition to 6-appointment only slots offered 8:00am – 3:00pm each workday.

“Many residents come to us for passport processing only to find out their trip is approaching faster than the current turnaround time. These extended hours are an effort to provide the first-class service our residents expect. Please don’t wait a second longer to book your appointment or drop-in during these special walk-in hours,” said Clerk Brook.

Township passport services are as follows:
Minors (15 years and younger) -1st time applicants and renewals
Adult (16 years and older) – 1st time applicants only.
Reminder, adult passport renewals must be processed via the Department of State directly.
To complete the passport application process, you must:
1. Complete paperwork in advance of the appointment.
2. Have required people in attendance at the appointment.
3. Wear proper required attire for the passport photo.
4. Bring payments for the U.S. Department of State (Check payment only: Personal, Cashier's, or Money Order) and Bloomfield Township (Cash, Check, or Credit Card).
