The Clerk’s Office is responsible for voter registration
and for all local, state and federal elections. Since May
2005, elections for the four school districts within
Bloomfield Township have been conducted by the Bloomfield
Township Clerk’s office. These school districts are Avondale,
Birmingham, Bloomfield and Pontiac. Municipal precincts are
used for school elections.
Pursuant to State law, residents must be 18 years old and
registered 30 days prior to an election in order to be
eligible to vote in it. A voter’s registration address must
match his or her driver’s license address. Those voters who
register by mail and have not previously voted in Michigan
must vote in person the first time. Absentee ballots are
available upon written request if a person is a senior citizen
(60 years of age or older) or will be absent from the
community the day of the election. The written request, in any
format, may be submitted by fax, hand delivered or mailed.
Absentee ballots may be obtained up to 2:00 PM on the Saturday
preceding the election.
The Clerk’s Office also offers complete passport services.

In addition to these duties, the Clerk’s Office is charged
with numerous record keeping responsibilities. It is the
official keeper of all Township records, including Zoning
Ordinances and General Ordinances. Minutes and agendas for the
Board of Trustees and Lake Boards are prepared by the Clerk’s
office. Applications for liquor licenses, solicitation,
fireworks, going-out-of-business, wetlands, wireless and
right-of-way permits are available in this office. The Clerk
serves as the Freedom of Information Coordinator and as member
and chairperson on the Township Election Commission.
The Clerk’s Office responds to a myriad of miscellaneous
questions from residents. Some frequently asked questions
concern garage sales, public meeting space and subdivision
deed restrictions. Bloomfield Township does not require a
permit for garage sales, but limits such sales to one a year
per household. The Township auditorium is available for
homeowner association meetings and can be scheduled through
the Clerk’s Office. The Township cannot defend subdivision
deed restrictions. The Oakland County Register of Deeds office
can provide a copy of specific deed restrictions upon request.
