Clerk of the Year Award

Release Date: June 28, 2012

Bloomfield Township Clerk Jan Roncelli has been honored by the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks as 2012 Township Clerk of the Year. The award was presented on June 20, 2012 at the annual MAMC Conference at Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City.

Criteria for nomination include years of experience, demonstration of greater-than-average competence in the position, activity in county/state/national associations, advancement of the clerk’s profession, a record of contributing to the improvement of the community; and respect of community leaders.

Jan has served as Bloomfield Township Clerk since 2004. During her years in office she has made the Code of Ordinances accessible on the Township’s website, established the Clerk’s Office as a Passport Acceptance Agency, instituted a Township-wide policy and procedure for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and implemented the Electronic Poll Book in 32 precincts, among numerous other achievements. In 2011 Secretary of State Ruth Johnson appointed Roncelli as the local election official for the State of Michigan on the Standards Board, which assists the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) in the development of voluntary voting system guidelines.

Roncelli’s leadership in the clerk’s profession has earned recognition from local, county and state organizations. Neighboring clerks often request assistance from the Bloomfield Township Clerk’s Office staff. The Bureau of Elections invited Roncelli’s department to host a training video on the use of the Electronic Poll Book.

“Whether overseeing her department, deliberating with the Board of Trustees or participating with other clerks on professional issues, Jan has demonstrated the ability to be flexible with her style and firm with her principles,” says Leo Savoie, Bloomfield Township Supervisor. “Her department has earned exceptional respect among the clerk’s profession.”
