Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees Appoints Leo Savoie to Position of Township Supervisor

At the regular meeting of the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees on July 25, 2011, the Board appointed Trustee Leo Savoie to fill the remainder of the term left open by Dave Payne’s retirement.

The vote was 4 to 2, with Treasurer Dan Devine and Trustee David Buckley casting the dissenting votes. In accordance with State law, Supervisor Dave Payne was not allowed to vote. Savoie will assume office on August 1, 2011.
The vote came after the two candidates vying for the position, Trustee Savoie and Treasurer Devine, made presentations to the Board and to the audience.
In a prepared statement, Savoie said, “This has been a long-term transition plan for me, as I have had every intention of running for the Supervisor position in 2012. I understand that this is a full-time commitment to Bloomfield Township, and I am well prepared for the transition. I am very passionate about the Township. I am thrilled and honored my peers have selected me to fulfill Dave Payne’s remaining term.”

Leo Savoie was first elected to the Board of Trustees in 2004. Prior to that, he served on behalf of Bloomfield Township on the Board of Review for assessment appeals and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Currently he is serving on the Election Commission, the Design Review Board and the Five-Year Strategic Plan Financial Committee.

Savoie graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1980 with a degree in Business and a minor in Economics. He is a designated member of the Appraisal Institute, holding the prestigious and highly sought after SRA designation. He has started numerous businesses focusing primarily on ancillary real estate activity. The primary focus in his business career has been real estate valuation. Savoie is licensed to appraise any type of property in the State of Michigan. He is on the Managing Committee for Zone Data Systems which is a national appraisal and data collection company engaging in excess of 200 appraisers. Leo brings his keen knowledge and insight of real estate, property valuations and business acumen to the Supervisor position.

On a personal note, Leo Savoie has been a Township resident since 1995. He and his wife Sally have been married for more than 30 years. They have two sons: Will, who is entering his senior year at DePaul University in Chicago; and Patrick, who is entering his junior year at Marquette University in Milwaukee.
