Firefighters Donate Holiday Meals To Local Families

Release Date: December 21, 2011

Every year the Bloomfield Township Fire Department celebrates the holidays with a big party for their families. That has always been fun, but the party held this past holiday season was far more gratifying. The Department’s families collected food for those in need and when it was all packaged up, they had enough to provide holiday meals for 71 local families!

Firefighter carrying grocery bags.

Firefighters from Central Station delivered:

  • 40 meals to Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency (OLHSA) in Pontiac;
  • 16 meals to an affiliate of OLHSA in Ferndale;
  • 15 meals to residents of Bloomfield Township.

Special thanks go to:

  • Firefighter Leonard Wineski for coordinating and promoting the project;
  • All BTFD firefighters and their families for their generous donations;
  • Firefighters on Unit 3 (West Maple Station) who decided to forego buying Christmas presents among themselves, as they have done in the past, and put the money toward purchasing food for the needy. Their donations provided for 25 families!
  • Hollywood Market for providing food at a discount to Unit 3;
  • Kohl’s Corporation donating $500.00 to purchase the turkeys and hams for each family’s meal. Kohl’s also sent six volunteers to assist in separating the food into bags;
  • And finally, a thank you to Township Trustee Neal Barnett and Senior Services Director Christine Tvaroha for assistance in identifying township residents who were in need of a holiday meal.

This is one more example of the Department’s continued commitment to charitable causes. Bloomfield Township is proud of the dedication the firefighters show year-round to help those who need assistance.
