Special Election Results

Bloomfield Township voters approved the Township’s millage request by a margin of 53% to 47%, or 5,647 "yes" votes compared to 5,014 "no" votes.

Dave Payne, Bloomfield Township Supervisor, stated, "Voters have expressed their commitment to keeping Bloomfield Township a premier community. Their tax dollars will stay in Bloomfield Township to maintain the high quality of services that we have always delivered.

"We will continue working intensively on a full-range of initiatives to keep costs as low as possible while delivering Police, Fire, EMS and the other public services our residents need and expect."

The 10-year, 1.3 mil millage will be levied in December 2010. It should restore approximately $4.4 million in property tax revenue in its first year; less than that each subsequent year as property values continue to fall. The Township faced a $3.1 million deficit in the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2010 and a $6 million (20%) deficit in the fiscal year beginning 2011.

Without the passage of this millage, the Township would have had to permanently eliminate 25 positions in March, 2010 and another 20 – 25 positions before the 2011 – 2012 fiscal year begins. Police and Fire/EMS personnel would be cut, along with staff in every other Township department.

Payne said, "Thanks go to the voters who understood the seriousness of the situation and wanted to keep their homes safe and secure; the Board of Trustees who had the courage and the vision to place the question on the ballot; and the employees who have worked hard under tremendous pressure and who will continue working hard to deliver the finest public safety and other public services to this community."
