Traffic Accident Reports Now Available Online

The Bloomfield Township Police Department only accepts cash or checks. Sorry, we cannot process credit or debit card payments.

Bloomfield Township residents who have been involved in a traffic crash within the Township will be able to download a copy of their report via the Oakland County CLEMIS website.

You will need the following information: Incident number and date of crash or your license number, date of birth and date of crash.

This new system will not only make it more convenient for residents to obtain copies of accident reports, it will greatly reduce the waiting time.

"The online document management technology allows interested parties to view and download printable copies of accident reports 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Reports are usually available within 48 hours of the date the crash was reported. Instead of taking time to make a trip to the Police Department, residents will be able to order their report anytime, day or night," said Police Chief Kirt Bowden.

There are a limited number of crashes that require investigation beyond the initial report. Additional information resulting from these investigations may not be available until such investigations are complete.

If you wish to purchase an accident report from the Records Unit of the Bloomfield Township Police Department you may still do so during normal business hours, Monday – Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM. Holidays excluded.

Adult Fingerprinting

The Police Department will fingerprint people for non-criminal purposes such as employment, adoption, licensing, securities, etc. All residents of Bloomfield Township and all persons working within Bloomfield Township, upon presentation of proper identification, are eligible. The Department does not fingerprint for Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) purposes. The cost is $10.00 for up to two fingerprint cards and $5 for each additional card.

Bicycle Licensing

Bicycle license tabs cost $1 and are available at the Front Desk of the Police Department during regular business hours. The license is valid as long as the owner owns the bicycle. The following information must be supplied to a Records Clerk when licensing a bicycle: brand of bicycle, serial number, color, wheel size (usually found on the tire wall), whether it is a boys' or girls' style, and name, address and phone number of owner. Bicycle licensing is strongly recommended as the Records Unit maintains a permanent record of the owner's bicycle information, readily accessible if needed in the event of theft.

FOIA Requests

As statutorily mandated, requests for information from the Police Department made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act must be made in writing. The Records Unit will supply a form for written requests or you may obtain one in PDF format by clicking here. A response to a FOIA Request will be made within five business days from the date of receipt of the request. Copying fees apply to FOIA Requests.

Police Clearance Letters

Official Police Clearance Letters are frequently needed for employment, adoption proceedings, and U.S. travel visas. Requests for Police Clearance Letters are processed for Bloomfield Township residents ONLY, and must be made in person at the Police Department - Records Unit during normal business hours. The following information must be provided to process a Police Clearance Letter: full and complete name, any previously used names, complete address, date of birth, driver's license number, and phone number. A photo ID is required. There is no cost for Police Clearance Letters.  Allow 2 to 3 business days for processing.

Police Reports

The Records Unit is open 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday, except for legal holidays. The Unit is closed on Fridays.

The cost for reports are as follows: $5.00 for any accident report and are available at the counter.  Bloomfield Township residents who have been involved in a traffic crash within the Township will be able to download a copy of their report via the Oakland County CLEMIS website. Incident reports are a $10.00 flat rate and a Freedom of Information Act Request must be completed to obtain an Incident report. You may obtain one in PDF format by clicking here. There may be up to a 5 day wait to process the FOIA.  For information on reproducing photographs contact the Records Unit at 248.433.7776.

Police and accident reports are generally, but not always, available on the next business day. To determine availability, contact the Records Unit at 248.433.7776. Reports may be obtained by coming into the Police Department during regular business hours, or by mailing a request to the Police Department with fee if applicable.
