Child Fingerprinting
The Police Department recognizes the need to have permanent
identification records for your children. The Child
Fingerprint Identification Program is an opportunity for
parents to obtain a set of fingerprints of their child for
safekeeping. Child Fingerprint Kits, containing
everything necessary for parents to fingerprint their
children, are available at the Police Department during
regular business hours. Alternately, children may be
fingerprinted at a community event such as the Police
Department Open House or at school with a parent’s written
permission. If none of the above options are possible,
arrangements may be made to have a child fingerprinted at the
Police Station during regular fingerprinting hours by calling
248.433.7724, or you can make arrangements through a
Bloomfield Hills school Liaison Officer by telephoning
248.433.7760. Parents will retain their child’s
fingerprint card. The Police Department DOES NOT KEEP or
MAINTAIN a duplicate set of fingerprints of children who have
participated in this program.
Child Safety Seat Inspection
A police officer trained in the installation and use of
child safety seats is available to inspect your restraint
system. Please call the traffic Supervisor
in the Traffic Division at 248.433.7749 or a traffic
officer at 248.433.7758 to set up an appointment.
Citizens'
Watch Program
The
Citizens' Watch Program is designed to deny criminals the
opportunity to commit criminal offenses. Knowledge that
concerned citizens will report any suspicious activity to the
police department can act as a deterrent, forcing the criminal
to go elsewhere. The Police Department's Investigations
Division trains and supervises Citizens' Watch members.
Citizens participating in the Program patrol their
subdivisions in Township-supplied vehicles and have full radio
contact with Central Communications and public safety
dispatchers. For more information about the Citizens' Watch
Program or about starting one in your subdivision, call
Community Relations Officer Pete Matejcik at 248.433.7724.
K-9 Demonstrations
Officer Godlewski and Brisco, his canine partner, are the
Police Department’s own K-9 unit. As a team they search
buildings, track suspects, and respond to narcotics calls.
Brisco, trained as a "narcotics detection dog," is capable of
sniffing out illegal drugs. Officer Godlewski and Brisco are
available for demonstrations for special events, Brownie, Cub
Scout, Girl Scout or Boy Scout activities. To arrange for a
K-9 demonstration, telephone the Police Administration at
248.433.7750.
Operation
Identification
Operation Identification is available to all Bloomfield
Township residents and businesses. Citizens etch their
Michigan driver's license number on household and business
valuables using an etcher supplied by the Police Department.
The driver's license number enables easy identification of the
property's owner in the event of theft. To obtain an
etcher on loan, telephone the Investigations Division at
248.433.7760.
Premise
Surveys
Bloomfield Township residents and business owners are
encouraged to request a Premise Survey to determine the
security of their home or business establishment. An
experienced detective will perform an in-depth site
examination to identify deficiencies or security risks, and
provide practical suggestions to minimize criminal opportunity
at the home or place of business. Surveys are usually
conducted during normal business hours. We will,
however, do our best to accommodate your schedule. To
make an appointment for a Premise Survey, contact Community
Relations Officer Pete Matejcik at 248.433.7724.
Speakers and Police Station Tours
The Police Department would appreciate the opportunity to
give your civic group a tour of our station. Even large
groups can be accommodated. In addition, officers are
available to speak at community meetings. To arrange for a
tour or a speaker, call the Police Administration Office at
248.433.7750.
