FAQ's

1. How often should I change my smoke detector batteries?
Smoke detector batteries should be changed twice each year. The best way to remember to do this is to change them when you change your clocks to and from Daylight Savings Time in the Spring and Fall.

2. Where should I keep my fire extinguisher?
It should be mounted or stored in an easily accessible place, ten to fifteen feet from a high hazard area or appliance such as the furnace room or the kitchen stove.

3. What is required to become a firefighter?
All departments have different requirements. We require a minimum of two years of college, Firefighter II certification, and Basic EMT licensure.

4. Where are fire stations located?
Station #1 is at 1155 Exeter in the Township complex west of Telegraph Rd., 1 block south of Long Lake Rd.
Station #2 is at 1063 Westview, ½ mile west of Adams Road.
Station #3 is at 4151 W. Maple, 1 block west of Telegraph.
Station #4 is at 2389 Franklin Road, 1 block north of Square Lake Road.
Station #5 is at 3595 Bradway Boulevard, off Lahser just North of Maple.

5. Where do I get a burning permit?
Under Bloomfield Township ordinance #419 empowered by state law, open burning is no longer allowed in the township. To View: Burning Ordinances

6. What should I do when I see an emergency vehicle approaching?
Steer to the right and come to a complete stop, allowing the emergency vehicle to pass on the left.

7. What can I plant by the fire hydrant in my front yard?
It is important that the area around a fire hydrant is clear so that firefighters are able to see it at all hours and be able to operate it easily. Leave the space within 15 feet of the hydrant free from obstruction. To view Section 8 of Fire Protection Ordinance: "Blocking Fire Hydrants and Fire Department Connections"
