Community ParamedicineCommunity Paramedicine

The Bloomfield Township Fire Department and St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital have entered into a partnership involving Community Paramedicine. The Community Paramedicine program involves Fire Department personnel and doctors at St Joseph Hospital to communicate through secure video conferencing, once a patient has been released from their hospital. This is done in the comfort of the patient’s home 1-3 days after the patient has been discharged from the hospital, to ensure the patient is following all the discharge recommendations and that they will not need to be readmitted to the hospital. Once the Community Paramedicine visit is completed, Fire Department personnel conduct a home safety inspection to identify any hazards that may be present and help rectify any that are present. This is all done free of charge for the residents of Bloomfield Township.
