Independent Bank Supports Bloomfield Township Fire
Department Charities with Donation

As Independent Bank expands into Southeast
Michigan, staff members are continuously looking for new ways
to thank the communities that have so readily welcomed them.
The Independent Bank Bloomfield Hills office raised $1,300 by
offering parking at their branch, located at 4140 W. Maple
Road for Ryder Cup attendees for the benefit of the Bloomfield
Township Fire Department Charities.
"The Bloomfield Township Fire Department works tirelessly
to serve this community. We are grateful for the opportunity
to partner with them," said Ron Long, president & CEO of
Independent Bank East Michigan (IBEM). "We have found
wonderful neighbors in this community."
The check was presented by Ron Long and Bloomfield Hills
Office Manager Ken Przydzial with Fire Department Chief Leo
Chartier and Captain Frank Smith accepting the check on behalf
of the Bloomfield Township Fire Department Charities. The
money will be put in a fund that supports the University of
Michigan Children's Trauma Burn Center, Straight Talk Juvenile
Fire Prevention Program, Bloomfield Hills Youth Guidance,
Children's Holiday Wish Program and the Don Jiles Firefighter
Support Fund.

General
Bloomfield
Township Firefighters and Fire Officers are dedicated to
helping wherever the need arises. They have organized charity
events for over 15 years. Each year they organize fund-raising
events to support various local needs. Since 1984, the
Department's golf outing has raised more than $9,000 each
year. The "Oldie's Dance" has raised more than $6,000 each
winter since 1986. A new fundraiser, a Car Wash, was
introduced in the summer of 1999. This is a joint effort
between the Bloomfield Township Fire Fighters and the City of
Birmingham Fire Fighters with all proceeds going to the
Bloomfield Township Fire Department Charities.
Over the years, The Bloomfield Township Charities has
donated more than $120,000 to burn prevention programs,
nursing education, patient care and burn research programs.
Each year, the "Charities" donate
more than $20,000 to aid the causes of various local
organizations.
- $10,000 to the University of Michigan Trauma Burn
Center.
- $2000 to the University of Michigan "Survival Flight"
for nursing education.
- $2000 to "On My Own", an organization that helps
mentally challenged adults.
- $1000 to the Bloomfield Optimist Club for their "Help
the Needy at Christmas" program.
- $1000 to Bloomfield Youth Guidance for a scholarship to
an outstanding student.
- $1000 to the "Hundred Club", a non-profit organization
that seeks to meet the needs of families of firefighters,
police officers and Michigan state troopers lost in the
line-of-duty.
- $3200 to the development of the University of Michigan
Trauma Burn "Straight Talk" program; a family program aimed
at juvenile fire-setters and designed to demonstrate the
terrible consequences of fire. For more information,

Bloomfield Township firefighters raised more than $78,000
in one weekend by "passing the boot" to collect contributions
from shoppers in local shopping plazas. All proceeds were
given to the Uniformed Firefighters' Association for Widows
and Children.
Five Township firefighters drove to New York City to
present the money personally. They gave their check to
Battalion Chief #9 at a firehouse in midtown Manhattan that
lost 15 men in the World Trade Centers on September 11.
