Capital Building Program Update:
The schematic design for this project began in January
2007. Its purpose confirms the program requirements, budget,
and schedule, and refines concept plans.
Westview Fire Station:
The proposed renovation was originally set up with a new
apparatus bay and living quarters for six people. It was
discovered that only four people would be working out of this
facility, so the plan was revised. A women’s bathroom, fitness
room, work room and storage room were added. The head of the
doors was raised in the apparatus bay instead of constructing
a new one. Additional parking was added for shift changes. A
new HVAC system will be installed. The estimated cost to
renovate this building is $856,000.00. The original plan that
was proposed to the Board of Trustees was $1,400,000.00.
The bidding process begins in August 2007, with completion
scheduled for February 2008.
Senior Services:
The new building will be constructed on the south side of
the Township campus. The lower level will serve as the active
function area – fitness room, pool, locker rooms, etc.
The upper level (main floor) will contain passive functions
- meeting rooms, computer lab, arts and crafts area, etc. The
senior day care will also be located on this level. The day
care will have a separate entrance, activities area and
outside area that is secure. The building will contain as much
glass as possible for the best viewing area.
The original square footage was reduced from 24,000 to
21,585 and all rooms were reduced in size except for the pool
area. The third level was also deleted, thus eliminating the
need for two stairwells.
The Senior Services parking lot and the 48th District Court
parking lot will be separated by a gate, which can be opened
to allow for additional parking during special events.
The original concept design cost from Yamasaki is
approximately $700,000.00 less than the design by CDPA.
The bidding process begins in January 2008, with completion
scheduled for January/February 2009.
Central Fire Station:
Different renovation designs were examined instead of
constructing an entire new building. New storage rooms, a
women’s bathroom, a large meeting room (45 x 38) that could
function as an Emergency Operating Center (EOC) and a large
fitness room were created. The entire building will receive a
new roof. A new tower that is more conducive to training will
be constructed. A new draft tank will be created as the old
one does not service current trucks adequately.
The bidding process begins in March 2008, with completion
scheduled for October 2009.
DPW Building:
The original design placement of the building had to be
changed due to soil condition. Also, the second level was
removed and the rooms were moved to the basement. This enabled
a two-story building to become one-story with a partial
basement, which saved money.
The fuel islands and cell tower will be maintained. The
salt dome will be constructed as a building and moved to a
different location.
The paint and sandblasting bays will not be constructed as
these functions can be contracted out and the need will be
greatly diminished by being able to store the vehicles in the
garage, which will hold 59 vehicles as well as generators.
There will be eight or nine light duty vehicles parked
outside. There is the possibility of getting an alternate bid
for car porting these vehicles.
There will be very little change to administration. IT will
no longer be relocated, but will remain at the Township hall.
Election storage records will be kept in the basement. The
Police Department shooting range will be 4 lanes and 75 feet
instead of 6 lanes and 100 feet, but the range will be
constructed so that in the future it could be widened and
lengthened.
The bidding process for Phase 1 begins in December 2007,
with completion scheduled for March 2008. Bidding for Phase 2
begins in January 2008, with completion scheduled for October
2009
