Activities Assistant, Adult Day Service

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Integral member of adult day service (ADS) team providing therapeutic activities for senior adults who have cognitive, memory, and/or physical impairments. Lead the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of program activities. Directly lead activities and create opportunities for Program Assistants to lead activities, provide oversight and evaluation of Program Assistant activities. Responsible for maintaining program supplies and activities budget. This position is supervised by the ADS Coordinator and will supervise contracted therapists and volunteers. This is a part time position without benefits.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of program activities.
  • Lead activities and create opportunities for Program Assistants to lead activities.
  • Develop community resources/contacts for program activities and outings.
  • Create regular family communications; newsletters, updates, invitations.
  • Coordinate with other BTSS employees as needed.
    Be a knowledgeable ambassador for the program.
    Attend meetings, assist in public relations, outreach and community education activities as assigned.
    Coordinate requests, purchases and budget for program supplies.
  • Assist with visitors and tours of program if needed; collect contacts for follow-up.
  • Supervise volunteers and communicate their effectiveness to Coordinator. Develop volunteer’s strengths and special interests to best impact program.
  • Assist with member transportation on van as needed. Attain Chauffeurs license within 60 days of hire.
  • Record observations of member behavior and communicate with other staff.
  • Provide input to develop and monitor members’ care plans.
  • Develop an effective working relationship with each member based upon knowledge of their psychosocial and physical health assessment.

SUPPLEMENTARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide one to one support to members as needed.
  • Ensure safety of members by monitoring their health status, behavior and immediate environment.
  • Provide supportive intervention to family caregivers, as requested.
  • Assist with meal time as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Backup for Program Assistants: Assist members with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, and grooming as needed. Provide assistance in transferring individuals with physical impairments.
  • Render first aid as needed. Complete CPR/AED training annually.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required to maintain smooth operation of Senior Center.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education or gerontology preferred.
  • Two years related work experience with senior adults with cognitive, memory, and/or physical impairments required.
  • Experience providing personal centered therapeutic activities required.
  • High level of interpersonal and writing skills to successfully communicate with members, public and staff.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills for creation of activities calendars and club newsletter.
  • Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by insurance carrier. Valid Michigan driver's license and chauffeurs license.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and comfortable with MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook and web use.
  • Work involves physical assistance with transfers and mobility of members (average 130 pounds).

Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience. Contingent Program Assistant: ADS

Interested parties are encouraged to submit a resume, cover letter and general Township application (available on the website) to Christine Tvaroha, Director of Senior Services to be considered for the interview process.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Integral member of adult day service (ADS) team providing therapeutic activities and personal care to senior adults who have cognitive, memory, and/or physical impairments. Assist Activity Assistant in development, planning, implementation and evaluation of program activities. Provide one to one support to members as needed. Provide input to develop and monitor members’ care plans and ensure a safe environment. This contingent position is supervised by the ADS Coordinator; is planned weekly based on member schedules, and could flex between 4-24 hours weekly though not guaranteed during low enrollment periods and not to exceed 1,040 annually.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop an effective working relationship with each participant based upon knowledge of each member's psychosocial and physical health assessment.
  • Provide one to one support to members as needed.
  • Provide input to develop and monitor members’ care plans.
  • Assist the Activities Assistant to develop, plan, implement and evaluate program activities.
  • Lead activities as assigned.
  • Assist members with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, grooming, and bathing as needed.
  • Provide assistance in transferring individuals with physical impairments.
  • Ensure safety of members by monitoring health status, behavior, and environment.
  • Assist transport of members, as needed using van. Must have MI chauffeur’s license or be able to get one within first two months of employment.
  • Record observations of participant behavior and communicate with other staff regarding changes.
  • Be able to work with other BTSS staff and volunteers successfully.
  • Accompany participants on outings to community sites.
  • Assist with cleaning as needed to avoid risk to participants or to enhance program operation.
  • Provide supportive intervention to family caregivers, as requested.
  • Be a knowledgeable ambassador for the program.
  • Give tours of program area to visitors and collect data to give to Coordinator for follow-up.
  • Develop schedule and assist members in toileting routine.
  • Set up program area for meal, serve meal, and clean up after meal.
  • Supervise volunteers when in program area. Communicate volunteer’s effectiveness to Coordinator. Develop volunteer’s strengths and special interests to best impact program.

SUPPLEMENTARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Render first aid as needed. Complete first aid/CPR training within 6 mo of hire.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings; assist in public relations and community activities as assigned.
  • As scheduled, act as the receptionist to answer phones, input data, greet members and caregivers and communicate essential information.
  • May be assigned responsibilities for meal or transportation related duties as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree preferred.
  • 2+ years related work experience with senior adults who have cognitive, memory, and/or physical impairments.
  • Experience providing personal care and therapeutic activities preferred.
  • Dementia training required.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to successfully communicate with participants, public and staff.
  • Competence in writing and computer skills sufficient to prepare required documentation.
  • Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier. Valid Michigan driver's license required; chauffeurs recommended.

Indoor Lifeguard

NOTE: 2013 high demand for EVENING hours

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This year round, part time position is responsible for ensuring the safety of adults in a warm water exercise pool in a state-of-the art senior center during approximately 50 hours of the Open Swim and fitness programs. The new center opened in 2009 for residents of Bloomfield Township over the age of 50. The center is open 6 days and 75 hours weekly and the position requires alternative scheduling that may include 7:00 AM starts or 9:00 PM closing. Position reports to the Evening Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure safety of all patrons; execute accident prevention in and around pool area.
  • Enforce policies and procedures for participation.
  • Administer First Aid as needed in a calm and effective manner.
  • Execute policies and procedures for emergency planning, response and patron safety.
  • Execute pool maintenance, testing and cleaning including daily documentation.
  • Facilitate storage and organization of pool chemicals.
  • Ability to relate to patrons and staff in a positive and professional manner.
  • Perform other essential tasks as identified by Fitness Coordinator.

SUPPLEMENTARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Attend meetings and trainings as identified by Fitness Coordinator and Evening Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as required to maintain smooth operation of Senior Center.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 17 years of age.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • Current Lifeguard certification required (ARC, YMCA).
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required.
  • Experience with senior aqua fitness or group instruction a plus.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Reliable use of email and knowledge of MS Office a plus.

Bloomfield Township Senior Services
Bus Driver

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To drive the BTSS bus for all functions as specified by the Township and the Director of Senior Services. When not driving the bus, the employee may perform a variety of duties involved in equipment and vehicle cleaning and perform custodial tasks for the BTSS. Perform manual labor as directed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Senior Services, or the Director’s designee (Communications Coordinator / Office Manager).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drive the 29 passenger coach or 14 passenger bus as required.
  • Participate in BTSS scheduling as required.
  • Assist Trips Coordinator in planning & implementation of day trips (reviews).
  • Participate in BTSS team meetings and special events as needed.
  • Assist with customer service in the office as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding department planning and communications.
  • Clean and inspect BTSS bus; report maintenance concerns to administration.
  • Clean and set up BTSS rooms/furniture as needed.
  • Assist the Road Department if required.
  • Shovel and salt sidewalks at BTSS site if needed.
  • Complete weekly timesheets.
  • Perform related work and other essential tasks as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform decontamination procedures on BTSS vehicles/property contaminated w/ blood or other bodily fluids.
  • Attend meetings and classes as identified by Bloomfield Township and BTSS.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work effectively and positively with seniors, the public, other employees and administrators.
  • Skill in the operation of BTSS vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards in operating BTSS vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of First Aid, Universal Precautions, DOT laws and regulations related to license.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Must possess and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Meet the physical and mental requirements as established by a licensed physician and/or psychologist selected by Bloomfield Township.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License with the appropriate bus endorsements.
