MDOT I-75 Modernization Project

I-75 Modernization Project – Segment 1 Resumes May 15

May 8, 2017

During the 2017 construction phase, two-way traffic will be sharing the northbound lanes of I-75, with two lanes open in each direction, to allow for the reconstruction of southbound I-75, along with bridge replacements where southbound I-75 crosses over Adams and Square Lake Roads. Once the traffic shift is implemented, traffic will be prohibited from using the eastbound Square Lake Road entrance ramp to northbound I-75. Traffic will be directed to M-59 to access northbound I-75.

Other ramp closures include the northbound I-75 exit to westbound Square Lake Road, the eastbound M-59 ramp to southbound I-75, and the southbound I-75 ramps to and from Adams Road. Detours will be posted for all ramp closures.

MDOT is getting a new look from M-59 to Eight Mile Road. The $840 million project is being constructed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to meet current safety and FHWA standards. Beginning with the Bloomfield Township segment from Square Lake Road to South Boulevard, major reconstruction began August 15th and includes: rebuilding the road way, switching on and off ramps from the left side to the right side of the roadway at the Square Lake Road interchange, replacing the bridges at Adams, Squirrel, and Square Lake Roads, adding an interior lane for high occupancy vehicles (HOV), evaluating the need for an additional carpool lot, upgrading the existing Adams Road carpool lot, improving drainage, and when possible, connecting the safety path segments in the Township. A comprehensive plan for the 18 mile corridor will be pulled together with design guidelines that address aesthetic elements, such as decorative brickwork, attractive railing, and landscaping.
