PGA Championship

PGA ChampionshipBloomfield Township has the honor and responsibility of being the host community for the PGA Championship, to be held at Oakland Hills Country Club August 4 – 10, 2008. This prestigious tournament is one of the world’s largest sporting events. More than 200,000 spectators are expected to visit and watch 156 of the world’s greatest golfers compete to win the coveted Wanamaker Trophy. The Township’s Board of Trustees, administration and staff proudly welcome the opportunity to showcase our community during this event. MORE BELOW...

Preparing for the PGA Championship requires extraordinary planning. Since 2006, Bloomfield Township officials have been working with Oakland Hills Country Club and the PGA. A task force of Township personnel from every department is coordinating all activities necessary to provide the public services required of the Township for a successful event.

Our paramount concern is the security and safety of all residents, participants and visitors. The Bloomfield Township Police Department is the lead law enforcement agency and will coordinate efforts with a host of law enforcement agencies at the federal, state, county and local level to make sure every reasonable precaution will be implemented.

It is also important for us to minimize disruption to our residents and neighbors. The event will have an impact on our community as sections of two roads are closed in the immediate area, traffic and parking are restricted in some neighborhoods, temporary structures are built and many more event-related activities take place.

At the same time, PGA officials, professional golfers and the 40,000 daily visitors want an enjoyable and successful tournament. This is one of the world’s most prominent sporting events and we must fulfill our role as the host community to help all guests enjoy the Championship.

Bloomfield Township, then, must achieve the ultimate balancing act. As we proceed with putting plans into place, the concerns of our residents, the needs of the tournament, and security and safety measures will all be weighed.

If you have questions or concerns about public services related to the event, use Bloomfield Township’s PGA Championship Contact Form or call Bloomfield Township’s PGA Championship hotline at 248.642.7608 for information.
