1. What does it mean to Bloomfield Township to host the
PGA Championship?
This is a wonderful opportunity for Bloomfield Township to
show the world what a fine community it is. The PGA
Championship will be televised in high definition with 27
hours of global coverage by CBS Sports and TNT to over 170
different countries and territories and over 400 million
households. An average of 40,000 people will come into
Bloomfield Township each day of the event. It is hard to
estimate what the economic impact of the 2008 PGA Championship
will be, but past PGA Championships have resulted in $30 - $60
million dollars worth of economic impact to the host region.
The efforts of the Bloomfield Township will play a role in
boosting the economy of the entire region. Many of our own
businesses and residents will benefit as a result of the
number of visitors to our community.
Hosting the PGA Championship also means residents will
experience a degree of inconvenience. Temporary accessory
structures will be built on the golf course, causing
construction noise and traffic in the weeks preceding the
Championship. During the event, some roads will be closed and
others will have parking restrictions. Traffic will be heavy
at certain times of day.
Bloomfield Township Police, Fire and Public Works
Departments, along with the Planning and Building Departments,
are doing everything possible to minimize the inconvenience to
residents. Other sections of this website provide details of
steps that will be taken to provide the necessary security and
safety for residents, spectators and additional participants
involved in this event.
2. How does the PGA Championship compare with other
major events that have taken place in Bloomfield Township,
like the Ryder Cup?
The 2004 Ryder Cup was big, but the PGA will be even
bigger! The Ryder Cup had 24 players, the PGA
Championship will have 156. The Ryder Cup was 6 days,
the PGA Championship will be 7. There were fewer
spectators allowed on the golf course during the Ryder Cup
because there was less golf to watch. Now there will be
more people allowed on the course because there is golf all
day all over the course. The Ryder Cup had 3200
volunteers, the PGA Championship will have almost 4000. Like
the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship is one of the largest
sporting events in the world and it will be right here in the
Bloomfield Township.
3. Who is in charge of public safety and security?
The Bloomfield Township Police Department is the lead law
enforcement agency. In addition to public safety, it is
responsible for the planning and implementation of all
security measures. The Michigan State Police, Oakland County
Sheriff’s Department, FBI and PGA Security are assisting.
4. What security measures will be put into place?
Everyone entering the golf course will undergo security
screening. Per the PGA the following items will be prohibited:
Cell phones
Pagers
Coolers
Signs
Lawn chairs
Cameras (prohibited only on Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday)
An 8 foot mesh fence will be installed around the entire
perimeter of both courses. No one will be able to view PGA
Championship activities or participants from outside the golf
course.
Traffic and parking is being strictly prohibited in some
areas and restricted in other areas. Portions of Gilbert Lake
Road and Maple Road will be closed. Also, select roads around
the Oakland Hills Country Club will be restricted to
neighborhood access permit only. Finally, parking in certain
outlying areas will be restricted to private property only.
There will be no parking on the streets. See
Subdivision FAQs section for information directly affecting the
adjacent neighborhoods.

Traffic,
Transportation and Parking
page for details.
5. How can I get tickets for the PGA Championship?
Please see the ticket section of the
PGA
Championship
website.
6. I have tickets – how can I find a hotel or other type
of accommodation?
Bloomfield Township cannot make referrals to hotels or
other private businesses. Please see
Lodging, Shopping & Dining
for links to organizations that
can make these referrals.
7. What is the best way to get to Oakland Hills Country
Club?
We strongly recommend that all ticket holders
use the shuttle buses that will be running from the
Silverdome in Pontiac. They are provided to all ticket holders
at no additional cost. There will be approximately 100 buses
running continuously from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day. They
will let spectators off right on the grounds of Oakland Hills,
making entrance into the event more convenient than any other
type of transportation or parking arrangements.
There is no public parking at Oakland Hills Country Club.
The neighborhoods immediately surrounding the golf course are
closed to traffic. Parking in the neighborhoods in outlying
areas is prohibited.

and parking, click

the week of this event. What are the state and local laws and
ordinances that may pertain to them?

control, please click here.

ordinances that you may need to know about,

Country Club. How will the PGA Championship affect my
neighborhood and me?

to bordering subdivisions.
