History
Bloomfield Blossoms
The history of Bloomfield Township as told by author Kay
Smith's book "Bloomfield Blossoms: Glimpses into the History
of Bloomfield Township" is now available online. Each page and
image of the 150-page book can be viewed through the
Library of Michigan website. Every name and place
mentioned in the book are searchable through this site. The
digitized text was made possible by the township with
permission from the author thanks to indexing done by the
Bloomfield Township Public Library through a project called
the Making of Modern Michigan. The web link will take you to
the Making of Modern Michigan website. At that point you can
either type in Bloomfield Blossoms for the entire book or
search individual names, dates and places for a more targeted
search.

The links below will take you to several old Board of
Trustees minutes books dating back to the first Board meeting
on May 25, 1827. The first two books,
1827-1874 and 1875-1907 have been
microfilmed and digitized by the OCLC Preservation Service
Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. If you take time to view
the pages you will note that the minutes were recorded by hand
in very fancy calligraphy and albeit attractive, somewhat
difficult to read. Unfortunately we cannot make the original
books available because they are very fragile. We have also
added scanned images from 1907-1917,
1923-1928, 1928 and
on.
Search Feature
From 1928 through the current minutes, you can search by
subject, date, or person. The toolbar in the PDF file
includes a binocular search icon. When you click on the
icon, a search column appears to the right and invites you to
enter the word or phrase for which you would like to search.
Once you list the information desired and press enter, the
search displays all available references. On each page
listed, the subject is highlighted.
Another way to search is to locate the FIND icon (if you
have Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0) in the toolbar and enter the
topic, person or date. To the right of FIND, select the
icons to scroll forward and in reverse to view any listings.
This method produces the same result, but takes longer and
requires more manual recovery of the information.
If you cannot locate the binocular or FIND icons, press the
Ctrl and “F” keys at the same time. A search column will
appear. Simply follow the same steps as you would for the
binocular icon.
